Handmade by Jana

Lover of art in many forms

Hello, my name is Jana. I make handmade air-dry clay pieces and resin and silver jewellery, enjoy watercolour painting and occasionally have a go at linocut printing.

Resin and silver

Jewellery with real pressed flowers

I make resin and silver jewellery. My earlier pieces on Etsy were epoxy resin jewellery with real pressed flowers: heart and oval pendants, a cube pendant on a sterling silver chain, sterling silver drop earrings and adjustable rings, as well as a bangle with pressed lilac and a real bee, a bangle with shell buttons and a ring with tiny sea shells.

Painting, drawing and printing

Watercolour, oils and acrylic

I enjoy painting, mainly watercolour, and drawing, and I occasionally have a go at linocut printing. My recent paintings are on Instagram.

About Jana

Once an artist …

My studio is in a small Herefordshire village in The Golden Valley, where I paint, draw, sculpt using air-dry clay and generally love to be creative.

I suppose I have always been creative in one way or another. I remember as a child I used to spend hours making tiny little models of plates of food from playdough (not exactly sure why food in particular; not that I was a starving child or anything), rolling out tiny balls for peas and making little round circles for carrots.

At school my art attempts didn't get much encouragement as art as a subject just wasn't considered important enough. Eventually I found my ‘art’ calling in my late twenties when I became a mother and completely by chance discovered a flair and passion for sugarcraft. Over the next 16 years I've built up a successful cake making business (my playdough days have caught up with me once again) and tried out many different ways of making sugar masterpieces.

It was through cake making that I discovered other forms of art like painting and printing and decided that it was time to try something new in life.

Being the kind of person I am, sticking to just one form of art won't quite satisfy the need for creativity in me and so I now enjoy painting (mainly watercolour), drawing, printing and jewellery making. These are the very beginnings of my journey as an artist (other than a cake one), but I am loving it so much already!
